Wood Wednesday: Wood Alphabet

I have not completed any wood projects this week, so this will be a stretch.

I collect frames (most of them are wood).

As I have mentioned before, I consider myself to be an artist. Everything that I create is because I am an artist. I have stopped creating so much wall art because I have run out of wall space.

More of my wall art can be seen in my banner menu Original Wall Art.

So now I need to find something to do with all of those frames. My daughter-in-law is a language arts specialist and loves letters. She really likes an alphabet wall featured on No Money Monday.

I want to create that some way . So here is a start.

alphabet 009

This is our last name; B-A-C-O-M

alphabet 003
I found the letters using Google Alphabet Images. I put in the search "Letter b images". When I found the one I liked, I saved it and then printed it. (The paper is wood, right?)This one I glued to a piece of scrapbook paper.
alphabet 008
This one I printed twice, cut them out and put a little spacer in the middle to make it 3-D.
alphabet 006

You can see the 3-D a little better with this one.

alphabet 007
This one was so cute, I just framed it.

alphabet 005
The M has several layers. I cut out different parts for each layer.

I had fun with this and plan to do the entire alphabet. I will take better pictures and give more detail as I become more accomplished. This was just trial and error. You know about my attention problem. I am also putting up some shelves I found in the trash.

How can people just throw that stuff away?

Stylish Blog Award

Thank you  Rita at Curbside Creations for the nomination.

There are rules that go along with receiving the award.
  1. Thank and link back to the person who awarded you this award.
  2. Share 7 things about yourself.
  3. Award 15 recently discovered great bloggers.
  4. Contact these bloggers and tell them about the award!

So here we go, seven things about myself:
  1. My husband is a private investigator. This sounds like a really fun job and it is..sometimes. It is not when he has to sit in the car for 8 hours in the Houston summer watching a house where there is nothing going on. The smart people are inside in the AC. I know about this because I went with him ONCE.
  2. My mother will celebrate her 90th birthday in April. She lives in an assisted living facility here in Friendswood, TX. Her mind is good but her body is tired. She is ready to join my dad in heaven.
  3. In a weak moment, I volunteered to coordinate our church and school Family Festival this year. I will be very busy until April 30th. I do know how to DELEGATE.
  4. I love to visit the seniors at the independent living facility where my parents lived for 8 years. Those people are great and love for outsiders to come by.
  5. I have psoriatic arthritis which means my body does not always move like I want it to. I wish I could lose some weight. That would probably help.
  6. I have the smartest 19 month old grandson. This week he climbed the 7 foot fence in their back yard. Watch out world!
  7. I will volunteer or search for anything to do to keep from cooking and cleaning.
New blogs I am following:
While notifying these great blogs, I decided to give some advice for making this easier. Your contact information needs to be front and center. A link in your banner menu will work. Make sure that you can just click on the email address and it opens a new email.  I have a gadget in my sidebar which takes you to a new email.

Blog signature
If you have the gadget to View My Complete Profile, make sure your email is listed and a quick link. For one nominee I had to just leave a comment and then I had to give a word verification.

This may all sound petty, but this nomination has taken a great deal of time. I created the new blog about myself (that part was easy. I love myself). I searched the people I follow to find new bloggers that I like ( it's hard to narrow down, there are so many great blogs). I then contacted all 15 to notify them. I really want you to have more followers and this would make it easier for others to navigate your blog.

Have fun!!!

      Marvelous Monday: Marvelous Bloggers

I wanted to shout out and ramble on about my pet peeves today, but I decide to be MARVELOUS instead. I am going to highlight some of my favorite blogs and tell you why.

One MARVELOUS blog that I just read is Pumpkin Pie Painter.
      • Her banner is cute and short. I like to be able to open the blog and see the title. I want to know what the blog will be about before I have to move my hand and scroll down. You get the picture…conserve movements.
      • She is a wonderful writer. It is informative and also funny. I like the cute comments about her children and family.
      • When I leave a comment, I just write the comment and click Post Comment. I do not have to prove that I know how to type silly words. When these words pop up, I just want to cancel the comment. Again, conserve movement.
      • For years I have been obsessed with chickens in my decor.
guest room 147PPP has cute chickens in her blog border.
Another MARVELOUS blog is Life in Rehab.
      • She is just a little crazy. Her introduction is “No, not that kind of rehab.” She gives cute side comments as she writes.
      • She shares great link party sites. I really haven’t noticed how often she does this, but I know she will give me a list of spaces where I can PARTY!
      • There are also tidbits of helpful hints.  “I'm on a mission. If I have never EVER not once replied to your comments, you may want to check this out: No Reply?
      • Her pictures are a little off beat. Saturday she was on her way to the THE COCONUT GROVE ART FESTIVAL!!! and so her graphic was her shoes. I love it!
Let’s talk a MARVELOUS  blogger—Jane at  Finding Fabulous has been helping me create a blog button. All of this HTML has been making me crazy. Now I think I have it fixed. Thank you Jane.

MARVELOUS creative outlet. I just found this one today. This mother of 3 small boys has a simple but effective blog
      • The background is white so that the content is highlighted.  She is fairly new to blogging and has made a very pleasing layout.
      • Here tutorial for the plane project is easy to read and follow. She even gave us the pattern. I just love that plane.
      • She can really create a knock-off. The PB pillows are made well.
      • I will give one suggestion. When you leave a comment she has those pesky words that you have to type. That makes me want to skip the comments. Say “no” to word verification.
      MARVELOUS Cristina's Adventures
      • She runs a great link party  20 Below Thursday. Most of the rules are the same, but the one I like is “The total cost for your project must be under $20.”
      • All of her projects are Below $20.
      • The blog buttons are clear on the right sidebar and they have the code under them.
There are many more marvelous blogs out there, but this should get you started.

        Fabric Friday: Fabulous Pillowcase Dresses

I have been reading the comments from Wednesday's post about the wood pedestal table. It looks like there are lots of skeptical men out there. I really liked the comment from
        Late Bloomers said...
Really nice! And I love your comment about your hubby trusting you... what is that about? Mine asks me 'will it look good...?'. 'No, actually I'm trying to make it look like crap. Does anything I do look bad?' Oy Vey!
You just have to love the men. They will never understand.

Remember: Fabric Art is sold locally at

I do not have any new fabric creations, so I am going to repost a design from November.

Recently a friend gave me a stack of vintage, hand-embroidered pillowcases. I had no idea what to do with them, so I just put them in a basket in my shop in Pasadena. They are cute and somebody will be nostalgic and want to buy them, right? Well, there they sat and sat and sat.
I don’t have any little girls and my grandSON isn’t very  feminine. So, I didn’t know about the latest rage, pillowcase dresses.

        pillowcase dress
My sweet young friend, Maria, came to our quilting, sewing, craft night with material to make a Halloween dress for Liliana. I went home,  searched the internet and started making pillowcase dresses.nap mat 013nap mat 015
        pillowcase 6 pillowcase 11  pillowcase 2
        pillowcase 3     pillowcase 13
They are so easy to make. The original pattern said to measure up from the bottom 20″, so that’s what I did. I then notched out a “J” for the armhole. I used the material that I had cut off to make a binding for the armholes. The last sewing step was the casing for the ribbon tie.

Last Sunday, I took the dress to church to check sizes and get some reactions. Everyone loved them. The suggestion was to make them a little longer. I tried it on a 2T and a teenager. The neck is a drawstring, so it can be tightened or loosened. As the sweetheart grows, she can wear leggings or pants under the dress. During the winter, she can add a t-shirt under it or a sweater over it.

Other fabric designs can be found in the blog header.

Check back Monday and find out what I find Marvelous.
