Wood Wednesday: Master Bedroom

I have not fallen off the face of the earth. If you follow my blog, you know that April was CRAZY. Added to that, we got a new computer, so I had to update EVERYTHING. Then blogger was down for a while. Well you get the picture...I have had trouble blogging. I think I have it all settled .

So welcome to Wood Wednesday!
When my husband leaves town, I usually go crazy with decorating in the house. He never sees my vision. I have to have the completed project.

I have had an idea for a headboard for our master bedroom for several months years. We have lived in this rent house for nearly 3 years. I worked very hard to make the rest of our house very homey as you have seen here and here and here.

Now it was time to make the master bedroom a little more inviting. I had updated the curtains to fit this house.
Our house in Bridge City only had valences over the windows. When we moved here, I bought ready made curtains at Tuesday Morning. I cut them just below the tabs and added the valance material.
I had made all the bed linens several years ago, but we did not have a headboard. The nightstands we use were my parents' when I was growing up. The doors on the nightstands have louvers.
That is real distress!

I decided that I would make the headboard out of louvered doors. I collected several sets of doors and just began attaching them to the wall. I never have a really clear plan. I just jump right in and start.
I started with this vintage window. I did the original watercolor and put it behind the window glass.

I had put the lamps up when we moved in. They were put up with molly-bolts, so they had to stay in the same place. I drilled holes in the doors for the bolts to go through. That determined the place where these doors would be located. I then had to add reclaimed red fence pickets to fill the spaces. Here is the final design.

This is part of my collection of signed Tom Clark statues. I love them. They did not make it through hurricane Ike very well. They still have some Gulf of Mexico mud in the crevices. If I scrub very hard, they mess up. Any suggestions?

On our 25th wedding anniversary, in 1998, my husband gave me 50 roses. The card was poetic but basically it said, 25 dark roses for the first 25 years of my life without you, 25 light roses for the 25 years for light with you. The white rose was for the last year, the brightest of all. Isn't he wonderful. This vase of silk roses is to represent the bouquet he gave me. I dried the original bouquet and I still have that too.
On the side wall I have one of my mother's watercolors. I definitely come by my talent honestly.

Here are some more pictures of the finished (maybe) headboard wall.

And now you see why I am "House Proud". I think I have been watching too much Nate Berkus.

  2. that watercolor is gorgeous! you're very talented. i like the idea of centering it above the bed and surrounding with the louvered doors. we actually have an extra set of those in our garage that may be coming upstairs soon! as for you figurines with the mud in them. i know that they are valuable monetarily. but i would suppose (without knowing your story) that they are also sentimentally valuable because you survived that hurricane. if it was me, i'd leave the mud in there as a reminder of a battle won. blessings, andiejaye http://crayonfreckles.blogspot.com
