Wood Wednesday: No Wood

This week I am preparing for my mother’s party so I haven’t done any wood projects. My life is consumed with party preparations.

I am so thankful to Natalie for her ornament mobile tutorial. I took all of Mommy’s Christmas decorations and made a mobile to hang over the refreshment table.

We still need to get napkins and fresh flowers.

It will be a great 90th Birthday Party for Esther Speck.

Knock Off Featured

This is so much fun. The ottoman that I recovered has been recognized. Beckie from Knock Off Decor said, " You are what will make Knock Off Decor a success."

It really did look a lot like the one from Pottery Barn. Please visit  Knock Off Decor and brag that you knew me when...

I sold that ottoman last weekend for way too little money. It was my first real upholstery job so I didn't recognize the worth.

Fabric Friday: Table Runners

My sweet mother will have her 90th birthday in April. We are going to have a big party in the church fellowship hall. In previous posts, I have told you about my mother. I was lucky enough to get her artistic talents but that is all. The rest of me is pure Pop. She is a girly girl, the ultimate lady through and through.

For several years after Pop died, we decorated her Christmas tree in her favorite bright colors. She likes butterflies and peacocks.

When I started thinking about decorations for the party, I decided to use these colors. The church has big round tables and white table clothes. Earlier I had made red table runners, so I decided I would make table runners for this party also. If I made them reversible, with blues on one side and pink on the other, they could be used later for baby showers.

So I began the hunt for the colors that would all go together. I wandered around Hobby Lobby. I wandered around Hancocks. I wandered around JoAnns. I would pick up one fabric and hunt for a coordinating fabric. I would put that down and try again. Finally after buying fabric from ALL THREE STORES, I came up with this combination.

I am not much of a photographer and it is dark at 7:30 am. The colors are much brighter. Maybe I will update the pictures later. I took all the fabrics to my quilting group and they helped me cut the fabric. During my garage sale I sewed up the strips. Then last night at quilting, we sewed the two sides together, turned them and stitched in the ditch.

They will look so pretty on the tables.

I am going to use the Christmas decorations to make an ornament mobile. Thank you Natalie for the great tutorial. In my curb watch this week, I found a wreath with 2 wire rings that will be perfect for this. When I get it finished, you will be the first to see the finished product.
Megan arrives Thursday to spend 10 days with us. We have Brad’s family reunion on April 2 and Mommy’s birthday party on April 9th.

I better get busy putting away crafts and making decorations.

Wood Wednesday: Woven Wood

I'm sorry! I thought this was posted on Wednesday.  I guess I was so excited about being a Guest Star that I just didn't post the Wood Wednesday. Enjoy my Woven Wood!

I was so busy last week finishing all my projects and having my sale, this week I have just been lazy. On my trash hunting trip through town today, I did find some good boards but no furniture. I am trying to put things away (company arrives in 10 days) but I am just not into it. I want to create not clean up.

The one thing that keeps getting my attention is Easter baskets. I have collected a lot of woven baskets. I have had some of them for years. In fact some went through the flood and are a little worse for wear.

So I decided that I would just paint them. First I spray painted them is colors that I had bought on sale. Then I added details with other paint I had.

Now I have to find some cheap or free things to put in the baskets. My main mantra is
Never Throw Anything Away.
I will have to add another one
Never Pay For Anything.

I will have a craft show on April 16. That should be a perfect time to sell unique baskets.

Marvelous Monday: Marvelous Sale

I had a great sale over the weekend, but I am exhausted! I made about $600 and got rid of some big pieces. I am amazed at how people want you to give away your handmade designs.

Now I have to start cleaning up for visitors coming in 2 weeks. I can really make a mess when I am creating. It seems like I just posted about my guest room makeover, but it is a disaster again. My daughter will be here March 31, so I have got to start putting stuff away.

The first weekend in April is my husband’s family reunion. When his mother died, we decided that we still needed to get together once a year. We meet the first weekend in April every year. Brad is the only one of his generation alive. Now it’s time for our kids to take over. This is one of the last picture’s with both of Brad’s brothers. It was maybe 6 years ago.

The second weekend in April my family will get together for my mother’s 90th birthday party.
with grandmother

That should be a fun time for all. My parents were amazing people. My mother is still very special.

I think this week I will try to rest up for the family parties.
